A favorite Jazz Fest event, the Gospel Brunch, will return to Dewey Beach as part of the Jazz Festival’s line-up. Until a few years ago this was a mainstay as one of the many attractions offered during the Jazz Fest weekend. This years event will be held in the Bay Center at Ruddertowne from 10 – 1, offering brunch and entertainment before the final day of the Jazz Festivals’ events begin around town.
The entertainment offered this year combines the worlds of Gospel and Jazz and features well known world class performers. John Patetucci recognized as one of the greatest bass players in the world will join Ruth Naomi Floyd, perhaps THE diva in the Gospel Jazz World. John has played with just about everyone on the Jazz scene. For instance. he is currently on tour with McCoy Tyner and Wayne Shorter. His lastest CD was nominated for a Grammy. Ruth Naomi Floyd hails from Philadelphia and brings her spell binding intensity to the program. Joining on keyboards will be Grammy winner – Johnny Neel. Vocalist and keyboardist Deah Harriot, choir director for the famous Bethany Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY will be bringing the regular performers at the hugely popular Sunday night Gospel show at the Village Underground in Greenwich Village.
Acting as hosts for the event will be the Reminders, featuring Dove and Grammy award winning composer John W. Thompson, Jazz Festival honoree and local music icon Ed Shockley and nationally acclaimed gospel vocalist Kevin Short.
