The Miracles were the first Motown group to bring Berry Gordy's Detroit record company fame with its first gold record. The song, "Shop Around," sold a million copies in 1960.
"Shop Around" was followed by hits such as "Who's Lovin' You" ("Shop Around's" b-side), "You Really Got a Hold on Me" (1962), "Mickey's Monkey" (1963), "Going To A Go-Go" (1965), "The Tracks Of My Tears" (1965), and their signature song, "Ooo Baby Baby" (1965).
In 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked The Miracles No. 32 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. The year 2007 marks the 50th anniversary of the Miracles.
In 1972, frontman Smokey Robinson opted for a solo career and the Miracles current lead singer is Mark Scott.
The Miracles continued, scoring two more Top 40 hits: 1973's No. 13 hit "Do It Baby", and 1976's No. 1 hit "Love Machine (Part 1)", the biggest hit of the group's existence.
